Norwegian letter goes abroad

The German “Ö” did very well on the rock scene for a few decades, with Motörhead and Mötley Crue as the most prominent examples. These days the Norwegian letter “Ø” (pronounced like the vowel in “girl” = gørl) has quite some success in French advertising.
I found these two examples yesterday while walking around in Paris. The Printemps department store ad has an obvious nordic reference but it’s still a mystery why the hamburger chain Quick would use an Ø to market their new burgers. But then again the graphic designer seems to have swapped the French “é” for some Czech letter as well…
